OPEN WATER UPDATE 16-Oct-08:

The Open Water Swim venue is a safe and attractive location on the southern side of Currumbin Creek, parallel to Duringan St (UBD map 70). A great venue for the first timers as the water here is usually calm.The course is a 1.25 circuit between the Thrower Dr bridge and the Gold Coast Hwy bridge . Swimmers contesting the 2.5k distance do 2 circuits, and those entering the  5k do 4 circuits. Swim caps will be supplied and must be worn. A cut off time of 30 minutes per kilometre applies, and after this time expires the Referee may order remaining swimmers to leave the water.
For those needing transport down to the O W S, Surfside bus 706 departs the Scarborough St entrance to Australia Fair every 30 minutes bound for the Pines Shopping Centre at Elanora. It  calls in at Pacific Fair, and  picks  up at highway bus-stops. Alight at the next stop after the Palm Beach -Currumbin High School,  walk south across the oval. When crossing Thrower Dr bridge  the course will be seen on the left.  The bus fare is around $4.30 each way. A Regent Maxitaxi holds10-11 and charges around $88.00 for Southport to Currumbin.
This swim is part of PanPacs, so no late entries accepted on the day.

NEWS ITEMS - 20/6/2008

• Closing date for nominations is Friday 10th October
• The main grandstand area is concrete - swimmers and spectators may wish to bring a chair or cushion (please be aware that we will only permit chairs in upper section of grandstand so that they do not block the view of other people)
• Free entry to the pool area is only available to those people showing games accreditation
• On days of competition, entry FOR COMPETITORS ONLY who arrive between 8:00am and 9:30am is via the back of the pool near the metal grandstand.  At all other times, entry is only permitted via the main entrance area
• The pool is outdoors, so swimmers and spectators should bring suitable clothing in the event of warm days, or windy/rainy conditions)
